There’s one thing many van lifers miss when out on the road and that’s a hot shower in the morning. But why miss out? Why not include a shower in your camper conversion?

Tailgate shower

The tailgate shower is a classic van shower idea as it’s about as space-efficient as it gets.

You’re restricted to the type of rear door you have as you’ll need an up and over rather than side opening, but otherwise, it’s a great way to shower as long as you’re not shy!

You could add a shower curtain surround if you wanted though, a tension rod curtain rail could easily be attached to protect your modesty.

Outdoor shower

This van shower idea is for all those of you that don’t have up and over doors. This is a campervan shower in progress but you can still get clean in the morning even while you’re still building.

It’s basic, sure, but if the water is warm and plentiful and you have something around to protect your modesty, what’s the problem?

This DIY van shower is simple to install and has one key advantage: no need to fit drainage as nature takes care of it for you!

Full van life shower

Why should you compromise on creature comforts just because you’re in a van? This idea shows that you don’t have to compromise on a shower just because you’re fitting it into a van.

This is a slightly smaller version of a corner van shower complete with enclosure, tiles and sliding door.

It takes up a lot of space, but if you have it, why not use it?

Combination van shower and toilet

Combining wet spaces is also another efficient idea. You only need to seal one area, all plumbing is in one place and you can configure the entire space to dual purposes with relative ease.

There are many variations on this shared space theme and they can all work well. Floating toilets work well, but there’s no reason why you cannot do the same with a chemical toilet either.

Drainage is key of course, as is timing!

Keep it simple

This van shower idea is about as simple as it gets. A panel on the floor with either a folding or sliding cover. When in place, it’s a normal floor. When exposed, you have a shower tray with drainage.

We’d expect there to be a rainfall shower and rail for a shower curtain otherwise things could get damp but otherwise, this is an incredibly straightforward hidden shower idea that maximises space with little compromise in your van conversion.

Standard camper van shower

This installation is a simple but effective way to have a van shower. It’s a basic wooden cubicle with veneer instead of tiles and a simple shower setup taken from the same feed as the sink.

It isn’t as space-efficient as some of these others but if you value your showers, that’s no problem.

If you pitch in the right place, you also get to shower with a view, which very few home showers can compete with!

Repurposed van shower

This shower cubicle is designed for small bathrooms within a home but offers a lot of scope for a camper conversion. It’s an all-in-one unit with a foldable shower rail and tray that folds flat to the wall.

Rather than building an entire shower stall in your van, you could implement this in the kitchen or other wet areas.

With adequate air circulation and damp proofing, you could literally shower anywhere in your van!
